What is Build My Edit?

Build My Edit is a brand new way to edit a video using an old school technique that writers, editors and filmmakers have been using forever.

Storyboarding.

Instead of throwing all your footage into an editing platform right away, then cutting it up from there, Build My Edit lays your footage out on paper first (digital paper that is), in an easy to navigate "blueprint". That way, the structure, pacing and storytelling of your video can be meticulously constructed to ensure that your audience remains glued to every frame.

But it goes far beyond that.

Build My Edit is all about collaboration and choice. You get to decide how you want your final product to look and feel from the first cut to the last.

1 - The Alignment Call

First, we schedule a call, so we can quickly go over how you’d like your video to look and feel. Some of these questions will include:

*What are your general goals for this video?

*How long should this video be?

*Who is your general audience for this video?

*Are you looking for a flashy edit or something more laid back?

The point of this step is to make sure that both our visions for your project are perfectly aligned.

At the end of the call, I’ll ask you for a link to your footage.

2 - Building the Blueprint

This is the most time consuming part on my end. And the most time saving on yours. This process involves a series of actions:

A) All of your footage is reviewed and then cut into separate clips.

B) A screenshot is taken of each clip to be used as a visual aid for future steps.

C) These screenshots are then rearranged into a straightforward blueprint, with structure and pacing being the primary concern.

D) After the first timeline is constructed, two alternative timelines are put together (more on that in a second).

E) The three timelines are then stacked on top of each other, and complied into a Canva doc and sent to you.

3 - Element Selection

The structure of your video will be split into three parts: The Hook (the first 10% - 20%), the body (the middle 70% to 80%) and the Call to Action (last 10% - 20%).

All of the options will be equally great and from here, it’s all about your preference.

For example, you can choose the first hook, second body and last CTA:

You can choose whatever combonation you'd like. For example, the third hook, first body, and third CTA:

After you make your selections, I'll go off and edit the video. Meanwhile, if you signed up for the "plus packaging" option, I'll send you that Canva doc to look over as well.

4 - Package Selection

5 - You Post the Video

And just like that, we’re done! You post the video with the packaging and SEO and together, we’ll keep track of the video’s accomplishments.
